LIZ HALL

Picture
Liz Hall graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1985 where she majored in crafts with Jewelry/metal being her main focus. Her Jewelry design won her scholarships and awards through out college. After college Liz and her husband, Jeff Hall moved to Loudon Co. Virginia and started renovating what is now Silverwood Farm and Studio. Silverwood combines Jeff Halls Sculpture studio, Liz's Jewelry and graphics business and a pinto sporthorse breeding farm.  Liz’s work has been featured in numerous juried publications including Art Jewelry Magazine and Exceptional Works in Metal Clay.   Liz also has twice been a Saul Bell International Jewelry Design Finalist and a NICHE Awards finalist.

“Most of my pieces are made from Precious Metal Clay via both traditional and nontraditional jewelry-making processes. Developed in Japan in the early 1990’s, Precious Metal Clay is a microscopic chimera of reclaimed precious metal, when fired in a kiln, is refined into a piece of fine gold or silver. While I enjoy the immediacy of the medium, my traditional metalworking background also allows me to manipulate the material at virtually every stage of the process. My work is frequently inlaid with polymer clay designed to mimic natural elements such as burl wood, leather, stones, or iridescent glass. By juxtaposing the “precious” against the “non-precious”, and incorporating elements pretending to be what they are not, I create modern tribal wear that explores our notions of value and authenticity.  I consider each one of my pieces a little piece of fine art.  I like making pieces that are different and unique but still very wearable.” Lizard's Jewelry
